A Legendary Debate ....
And will continue for ever , as both the companies are topping in their list will huge number of new camera with more functions and more Lens to keep up with the requirements !!
But what this means to a person who is planning to buy a new DSLR
This is exactly which goes in a common man who wants to buy a DSLR
I want to buy a new DSLR !
My friend had a DSLR , I think it was some 550 or so called name !
Let me check it in the internet ...
wow , thats a very nice camera ...
I checked the reviews and I have checked in flickr some of the snaps taken using it
Ok ... I am going to buy this ...
Later the other day , he just goes through some website and finds out that he really doesnt know a lens is how is it going to be so important ....
People write a lot aboit ISO .
what is it ? Why people are saying the name : NIKON in between the discussion forums of Canon ?
What is weather sealed body ? Does it mean that without weather sealing you cant take your camera outside your house ?
Whats frames per second ? Why its varying so much ? My android phone got good frames per second ! Then why these costly cameras have very not much ?
People say SONY is best ...
From where this SONY came from now :(
OMG !!
This is going out of my hands !1
Right now I am not going to buy canon 550 D . Cause I am not convinced .
There are a lot of choices and I am confused
Things to do :
=============
Its very common to get into such a dilemma .
Please dont go behind blogs and reviews
Please dont hear just a single friend's opinion and get a camera .
If you really want to buy a DSLR which satisfies you for a long time , then you should do some initial self surveys and studies
1. Know what a DSLR is
> Whats the use of changing Lens ?
> What is ISO and why people are going behind it ?
> What is a sensor and how it matters ?
> Do you need a camera for rough and tough use ?
> Do you need a DSLR to learn photography ?
> Whats the difference between professional DSLR and a semi professional and a consumer level DSLR ? Does it mean that If i buy a beginner level DSLR , its worse than a point and shoot ?
> What are the different types of lens ?
> What is in-built motor in body ? how its going to help me ?
> Do I have a budget in mind ?
> Will my budget cover my DSLR , lens , tripod and a bag ?
and most important :
What is Auto Focus and why more Auto focus points is boosted up everywhere as great !
and whats this cross point Auto Focus ?
Things to know

The very important thing is :
Infact in the initial stages even I was worried and irritatd reading the reviews saying -
you should know what you want and each DSLR has got its own advantages and dis advantages !!
This is actually true
In Nikon itself , each camera is made different for different customers
If I need to take bird photography where I expect the birds to fly very fast and immediately , then i need a good firm body to hold huge zoom lens and also good frames per second ability with good buffer !!
If I need just some family snaps during get together , Is it fine to get a descent ebtry level camera ?
Point is ---
(my personal Idea ....)
Canon is a step ahead in Video (Video using dslr)
Nikon is a step ahead in Photography !!
Infact both does Video as well as Photography !
But when taking Video using Nikon , sometimes you might feel you are not getting a good autofus or subject tracking !
But in canon , you feel this is done a little better !!
These are DSLR and video in DSLR is introduced just a few years back !
But this has become a gread welcome in the industry even by great filmmakers
Films like SlumDog Millionaire and Black Swan were taken using DSLR when their huge professional cameras cant do the job where they have to go through very narrow streets and all
In brief .....
Nikon and Canon are both great companies which are doing really great in making cameras
Buying either of it wont make you feel sad !
But personally I feel , Nikon is better for core Photography
and Canon is good in photography as well as videography !!
